‘Pazhassi Raja’ was selected as the best movie of the year in the Annual Malayalam Movie Awards, (AMMA) awards which was announced this Sunday. While Mohanlal was selected as the best actor for his meticulous portrayal of the lead character in ‘Bhramaram’, Kanika was selected as the best actress for her roles in ‘Bhagyadevatha’ and ‘Pazhassi Raja’. Adoor Gopalakrishnan was named for his contribution to Malayalam cinema.
The other awards that went to ‘Pazhassi Raja’ includes that for Hariharan (Best direction) MT Vasudevan Nair (Best Screenplay), Resul Pookutty, Amritha Preetham (Best Sound), Illayaraja (best music) and Padmapriya (Special award).
The others in the award list includes Manoj K Jayan, Meera Nandhan, Jagathy Sreekumar, K P A C Lalitha, Sasikumar, Jagadeesh, Baby Nivedhitha, Mohan Sithara, Vayalar Sharath, Ajayan Vincent, Rajesh Jayaraman, Yaseer Sali and Vimmy Mariyam. While ‘2 Harihar Nagar’ was selected as the most popular film of the year, ‘Passenger’ was named as the best movie made with a social commitment. The awards will be given away in a grand function at the Sharjah Cricket stadium on the sixth of this month.
