Designed to allow Pakistani commuters make their way through over-congested Lahore city streets with ease, the TAKHT LAHORI is a zero-emission bus that relies on solar power for sustenance. Designer Ali Murtaza has supplied his concept bus with special in-wheel motors to make the most out of state-of-the-art active suspension and regenerative braking.
The designer has conceived the green vehicle for “My City,” a scholarship competition of Instituto Europeo di Design’s School of Transportation Design. Some dedicated Lithium-ion batteries count on either integrated 3D photovoltaic panels or a regular A/C plug to power the in-wheel motors. For those who are all ears to safety, the bus concept features an “Active Bumper” that provides a mechanical, airbag-powered crumple zone on all sides.
